Marry someone who accepts not the one who understands.

My counselling work often helps me learn a lot about things I have never experienced. One such aspect is MARRIAGE. Being single and still able to solve marital issues is something I have learnt from my counselling work. I have received compliments for my work by many people. However, I believe the best compliment of my work is seeing all those people I have counselled live happily in their lives. All those marriages all patched up back to normal by just some small efforts by me. These things actually make me happy. Often, my friends call me up for some counselling and help. One such incident did happen recently which I could not resist to share. I got a call from a very close friend. She is from the bunch of people I respect. I had a small chat with her over the phone call and told her that we could meet for dinner that evening. I picked her up and we were off to our  favorite  restaurant. After ordering stuff, we started discussing normal stuff and finally she came...

Success an important element of marriage.

With the recent marriage season in session the traditional “Indian Matchmaking System” was in full swing. Traditional Sales Agents like Buajis, Mausijis, Chachijis, Chachaji, and Mausaji, Phuphajis (All maternal and patriarchal relatives) were in complete action and they were all achieving successful matchmaking numbers to their credit. I do respect all my relatives and also love them a lot but I did call them as traditional sales agents because at such occasions they always behave as one. They are always on your head with “Look at that girl/guy she/he is nice I know her/his parents personally. Do you want us to put forth your details for further consideration?” This is a common thing that goes on at marriages/engagements. It’s not that I have not fallen prey to such a relative and their sales strategy. Being a writer is a different thing but even a writer sometimes faces issues first hand so that he can experience the intensity of any situation and write deeply about his thoughts. I...

The day I Met the death Angel..

Met the death Angel. Since my childhood I have been taught lessons in ‘Karma’. Born and bought up in a Jain household it was like an inseparable part of my parents’ upbringing. Especially, when, I come from a family that has 11 individuals who have renounced the world and entered into monkhood. Some of these 11 monks even sold their Ferraris and some gave away a lot of money as charity that they had earned in their lifetime before accepting monkhood. I wish they could have thought of giving away that money to me for business. I was always taught that a bad Karma will always bring a bad response to me in life and that when I meet my death angel he will calculate it and pronounce me imprisonment in hell. As a kid I was scared of ghosts and mom always told me that the death angel is very terrifying in his looks. I don’t know why the Hindu mythology is so gender biased, why can’t the death angel be a woman rather than a man? Well that can be discussed later I guess. So, being a kid I...

You never put good money to chase bad money.

I was waiting at the station for my train to arrive. I checked my watch and saw that it was almost time so I saved my article on which I was working and shut down my laptop. I wrapped the laptop in the bag and was all set to board the train. Though I wasn’t happy as I had a good flow of thoughts while writing that article and the link was suddenly interrupted. But work comes first and leisure later. So here I was standing on the platform for the train to come. There was an announcement that the train was delayed due to some technical issues and it will arrive late by an hour. I had no other option but to wait. So I decided to continue with my article. The laptop was on after a few seconds I started typing and going along with the flow of the article. I was so engrossed into writing that I wasn’t aware what was going on around. I had walked into a different world where a writer is romances his words and gets a masterpiece ready for appreciation. “Kunal Dhiren Patrawala.” Someone ment...

Tamed Emotions and chained feelings.

The other day I got a call from a friend. She was sounding too low and tensed. The phone call was from a concerned sister seeking help for her brother. She had called me to tell me that her brother had a break up recently and he was too depressed and she wanted me to talk things out with him and counsel him out of the depression. I told her I would be at her place the following morning.  I have been counseling such cases just as a hobby and not a profession. I have no official degree in it but I do it as a gesture of kindness to people who don't understand the pain of a heart break and can't handle it. What makes me the expert in doing so? Well, philosophically speaking I ain't got a heart anymore. It has been destroyed and broken so many times that it doesn't exist anymore. Physically and mentally speaking I am into a state of "Emotional Paralysis" a acute condition of numbness towards all emotions caused due to chemical imbalance in the brain leadin...

What is Religion?

“Kunal, please do not be so much of an  Atheist . Why don’t you believe in God and religion dude.” Was the statement my friend put forth to me when we were discussing once again the possibilities of the non-existence of God. This was the usual statement he made when he ran out of points to argue with me and convince me on the same. “Look when you have proper points to argue and convince me only then discuss God with me. Till date you and anyone or everyone who has debated with me on this has lost arguments over all this” was my closing statement to the debate. He however like all other people around me was determined to make me agree that God exists and bow before him. The other day he called me and asked me whether I was interested in giving a motivational lecture to his 10 th and 12 th std students. At first I was reluctant as I knew what he was upto. He knew I could lead the herd anywhere with my words as per his demands. If given a chance I could convince anyone in...
